Beauty Secret: Collagen

The other day at work, I overheard one of my coworkers say to another coworker, “I want my hair to be thick like that. I don’t know what to do with it.” I didn’t want to seem like I was in their business (even though I was), but I felt compelled to share my secret. My secret is: I take collagen.

Collagen is very vital, and it’s an abundant protein in the body. It’s found in muscles, skin, tendons, and bones. Although needed, our bodies decline in the production of collagen as we age, and it can lead to health problems such as the breakdown of connective tissues and normal cellular processes.

I have thick, coarse, curly/kinky hair. It’s long, and I keep it primarily in a bun because I don’t like wearing my hair down often. I have a lot of hair, and it can be annoying at times to wear it down. Before getting my hair to it’s current state, I wasn’t pleased with it. It would shed, and I noticed it was thinning in certain places due to stress. I took matters into my own hands, via multivitamins and minerals, lots of water, essential oils, and yes, collagen. The collagen really helped, and I started noticing results within a week. I’ve also noticed my nails are stronger, I have less discomfort in my knee (stems from an injury a long time ago), and my skin is clearer with a natural glow. Last week while at the spa, the massage therapist noted, “You have really beautiful skin. I don’t see any flaws.”

The Super Collagen by NeoCell is what I use, and I take it daily. I put one scoop into the blender for my morning smoothie, and I follow it with a vitamin C pill. It doesn’t have a flavor, and it mixes very well. I love that because I have a sensitive sense of taste, and I can’t stand adding powders that taste funny and are gritty. If you’re having issues with your hair, skin, nails, bones, then I highly suggest taking some form of collagen.
