Southern Girl Realness: Millennials Don’t Want To Be Broke & Married

The following was inspired by the article, “Ready for the Marriage Apocalypse?”

I hate student loans. HATE THEM! If there was one thing I could do different in life, it would be to attend one of the colleges that offered me a full scholarship instead of the one that offered me a partial scholarship for my first degree. Due to that decision, I’m still paying on student loans (I hope to be done by the end of next year). I graduated from college with my first degree in 2007. That was the last year that the economy was somewhat manageable, and people were still able to get jobs. Soon after graduation, I was offered a great job with one of the best healthcare systems in Atlanta, GA. That job helped me be financially independent from my parents, establish myself, and pay the devil student loan company. Read More

Books for A Marital Boost

The Hubby and myself before we were “Mr. & Mrs.”

Marriage is a blessing. It represents the union of two people who wish to unite as one and live lawfully together (have to put lawfully in there because you do sign a state appointed marriage license). Even though marriage has its ups and downs, at the end of the day, the two parties should still be in love with each other. Well, that’s how it should be.

Unfortunately, marriage in today’s society receives a bad reputation. I’m not going to lie to you and say that I’ve never questioned my marriage. Yes, I have done that. Read More

Kemetic Yoga on a stone wall in Egypt

I would like to say I’ve been practicing yoga since 2011, but after learning of the true meaning of yoga and its involved practices, I cannot. Since 2014, I have been practicing yoga; since 2011, I have been involved in the American act of what yoga represents…just physical exercise.

My first time doing yoga was in a hot, sweaty, and funky Bikram yoga class. It was already over 100 degrees outside, and the heat inside felt hotter. Although I almost passed out in class, I fell in love with Bikram yoga. I kept at it, dropped over 10 pounds in two weeks, and was faithful to the yoga studio. Bikram yoga later came to my rescue when physicians told me I would suffer from chronic headaches and neck spasms stemming from a car accident. After a few sessions of Bikram yoga, I have been pain free for years. Read More

Southern Girl Realness: Dating Etiquette

I don’t claim to know everything about dating and marriage. No one does. However, as a married woman, I think there is some validity to my opinion when it comes to these subject matters. My opinions might be a little archaic and very southern, but as a Georgia girl, I speak my truth. Too often these days people hear the saying, “Marriage is dying.” It seems like the idea of marriage is one that isn’t largely respected in this day and age. Being a baby momma is more common (especially in the African-American community…don’t get me started on that 72% out-of-wedlock birthrate), and far too many couples are settling for the pseudo idea of what marriage is instead of actually getting married. That’s a problem! Read More
